Bit of Wood Match Play: The Fourth Match

31st March 2012 saw cash Till and Fairbairn go three up after three, not looking good for the holders at this early stage.

It was back to 2, back to 3, back to 2, back to 3, when they came to the 12th hole. (actually the third at Copt heath as they had teed off from the tenth).

A monster par three, very difficult.

Short Stuff smashed a four iron that never left the pin, it landed gracefully with a bit of check, and rolled into the hole. It would have been stiff anyway. A hole in one !!! The first time in 20 years that this has ever been done.

So, back to 2 down.

More pars, but in the end, the holes ran out and the holders had to give up their grip on the bit of wood.

Cash Till and Fairground ate the new holders by the score of 3 and 2.

"We kicked their arse" said Short Stuff, "but somehow we lost".

Bit of Wood Match Play: The Third Match

The third match took place at Edgbaston golf club on Saturday February 25th 2012.

T.C. and Short Stuff defended the trophy against Winnie and Cock.

The course was in great condition but the fine form of Short Stuff had deserted him. nevertheless the holders were quickly 2 up.

Winnie and Cock battled well, Winnie making several 20 feet putts for halves to avoid going down badly. Cock hampered by a rushed arrival and an inability to hit the ball properly.

The match was all square with three to play courtesy of a fabulous birdie on 15 from Winnie.

Short Stuff then hit a magnificent drive up the par five 17th, followed it a solid three wood and followed that with a breathtaking 7 iron to four feet, calmly stroking in the putt for birdie.

This of course meant that they were one up with one to go and so, could not lose. They would therefore retain the trophy at worst case. Winnie and Cock though recovered their composure both making a difficult par four up the last to square the match and avoid defeat.

The match finished all square and the holders retain the trophy.

"We kicked their arse" said Short Stuff, "next challengers please".

Bit of Wood Match Play: The second Match

The second match took place at Ross on Wye golf club on Friday january 20th 2012.

T.C. and Short Stuff defended the trophy against Neal Gooding and John Mayers.

The course was in great condition and Short Stuff in fine form. The holders were 2 up after 2 and then went 3 up after Short Stuff holed an eight iron to eagle the par five fourth.

Tippy battled well, T.C. came in and out and Neal finished with 7 straight pars but the holders held on grimly to take the match by the score of 2 and 1.

"It was a tough day but credit to Short Stuff who played very well" said Neal.

"We kicked their arse" said Short Stuff, "next challengers please".

The Inaugural event: Sandiway and Lillishall, October 2011.
